Remembering Our Departed Ones

Filed under: Uncategorized — pognang @ 5:28 pm

We were in high school sophomore when our religion teacher(noong isang taon lang ba ito…hahaha, to my classmates in h.s. please correct me if i’m wrong…), Ms. Espeleta gave us a surprise quiz, the question is: "What is Communion of Saints?" I made a wild guess, but ofcourse my guess is  wrong :) According to her, Communion of Saints is the unity of the three churches in Catholic Faith- The Church Militant, Church Suffering and the Church Triumphant with Christ as the Head. The Church Militant refers to us-living Christians(people on Earth). The Church Suffering refers to our departed ones in purgatory. The Church Triumphant refers to the saints and the holy people. The Church Militant prays for the Church Suffering or the people in purgatory, so they will be pardon from their sins. The Church Triumphant prays for us, the Church Militant. So, let us remember our departed ones in our daily prayers…Let’s pause for a while and say a prayer for all the souls in purgatory…

Why Some Relationships are Empty?

Filed under: Uncategorized — pognang @ 5:26 pm

Why some relationships are empty?

Why some relationships fail?

Why some couples are unhappy?

The answer is a three letter word…

SIN

Sin creates gap between two persons. And sin is directly proportionate to the gap in a relationship. The more the sins, the bigger the gaps. The bigger the gaps, the bigger the chances of getting away from the relationship.

Oh Aldrin, My Aldrin

I was in a hurry going home the other day-it’s the start of Aldrin’s Second Quarterly Test. I felt like I was the one who will take those exams and that I have to exert 101% effort. It’s about…photosyntesis, phylum coelenterata, data registers, types of RAM, sugnay, fractions, types of nouns and ofcourse understanding the instructions very well.

When I saw him playing at the park, in front of our house, I asked him to go home. He did. We ate some miryenda first, before starting to review "our" lesson. While eating, Aldrin related "Ma, yong isang staff sa School nagpunta dito hinahanap ka?" Then  I answered "Bakit?" Smiling, I answered " Sinasabi mo yon…YAHOOO!!!" We laughed together until we finished our miryenda.

That’s the beauty of motherhood :) You feel like skywalking in the sky :)

Aldrin my son is 9 years old and in grade five. He was born on Valentine’s Day. We always joke and laugh until we almost die of laughing. Laughing about the things around us.  I wish and pray that we continue to be laughing together in many many years to come. And that my dream for him  be realized…that He grow up responsible, smart, successful, God-fearing, healthy and live a long life of happiness and laughter. My Aldrin!

Memorial Day of  OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY
This feast day was instituted by Pope Pius V in thanksgiving for the Blessed Virgin Mary’s assistance in the Christian victory over the Turks at Lepanto on October 7, 1571.  The Pontiff foretold that the Rosary would win that battle in 1569.  Clement XI  extended the feast to the universal Church in 1716.
The Rosary is a powerful weapon in the apostolate.
And when he came to her he said: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.1  The angel greeted Our Lady in this way which is now so familiar to us since we have often repeated the very same words to her.
In the Middle Ages Christians greeted the Virgin Mary with the invocation Mystical Rose, the symbol of love and joy.  As an _expression of this affection her images were adorned with crowns or bouquets of roses called Rosarium in medieval Latin as they still are today.  Whoever was unable to recite the one hundred and fifty Psalms of the Liturgy of the Hours each day would pray as many Hail Marys instead.  The faithful used stones strung together by the decade or knots on a rope to keep count of each invocation.  At the same time they would meditate on a particular aspect of Our Lord’s or Our Lady’s life.
The Hail Mary has long been amongst the richest prayers of the Church.  Popes and Councils have frequently recommended it.  The wording itself would acquire its final form with the addition of the petition for a happy death:  Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.  We beseech the Virgin’s help in each situation now, and at the climatic moment of our definitive meeting with Christ.
The mysteries focus on the central events in the life of Jesus and Mary.  In a sense they are a summary of the liturgical year and of the whole Gospel.  The prayers of t he Litany that ensue are a song of love for the Blessed Mother.  They are Marian praises, petitions for her help and manifestations of joy and exaltation before her virtue and power.
St Pius V attributed the Victory of Lepanto to the intercession of the Blessed Mother, since a grave threat to the Faith soon came to an end when Rome and the Christian world invoked her patronage through the Rosary.  Today’s feast recalls the wonderful event.  On the occasion of its institution, the petition to Our Lady Help of Christians was added to the Litany.  From that moment of the Roman Pontiffs would encourage devotion to the Blessed Virgin with renewed fervour as public and universal prayer, for the ordinary and extraordinary needs of the universal Church and the nations of the entire world.2
The Church devotes the month of October to the Rosary in order to honour our Blessed Mother in a special way.  Our love for this devotion should be constantly renewed.  How is our contemplation of the various mysteries going?  Do holy ambitions, such as the Christians had who prayed for victory at Lepanto, enter into our stream of praise and petition during the Rosary?  Given our great need for help and our concern for the spiritual growth of our families, Our Lady’s presence is crucial.  There are always the needs of the friends we do apostolate with to remember too.  We need to bring constantly to mind: Today as in other times the Rosary must be a powerful weapon to enable us to win in our interior struggle and to help all souls.3

The Month of the Rosary

Filed under: Uncategorized — pognang @ 10:01 pm

Last Sunday, the 1st of October 2006, Father Deng’s homily awakens us. Father Deng is our good looking (inside and out) parish priest whom I believe is a good shepherd. In this modern time, even priest are questioned about their vow of chastity. It has something to do with the influence of the modern world and the deteriorating Christian Faith. But this priest I believe is somebody in tune with God…always spreading goodwill to his fellowmen.

He started his homily by asking the people this question “Kamusta na kayo, pagkatapos dumaan ni Milenyo?” He cited one part of the gospel about how God remember our good deeds even by just giving “ a glass of water” to the thirsty. At that point of the homily, I asked myself If I had been a good Samaritan lately?

He mentioned how sad the situation is when families are broken even in religion.  Then, I remember one neighbor of ours who has this situation. The parents are Catholics but the eldest is a born again Christian. Let me say that I have nothing against any religion or any sector of Christianity. My concern is the unity within the family. I do believe that there must be a common religion and therefore a common Faith among members of the family. Religion must be a binding force so families will not break away.

In connection with October as the holy month of the rosary and “ strengthening of families though prayers”, our beloved parish priest launched an activity called “ The family that prays together stays together.” The activity aims to recite the rosary that will be led by different families on a daily basis. This will surely help families to be united and a good start for all of us.

And so, as a trying hard follower, I vow myself to recite the rosary. Let’s recite the rosary. Anyway …we are family in Christ!
